First Contact Physiotherapists

First Contact Physiotherapists (FCP) are specialist physiotherapists who can help patients with patients with injuries or conditions such as back pain, muscle or joint problems.

First contact physiotherapists work at the GP surgery and patients can access them directly through reception without needing to see a GP first. The physiotherapist can assess and diagnose issues, provide tailored management advice e.g. with a personalized exercise program.

If necessary, they can request investigations or make referrals to the appropriate specialist at the hospital or local community. Some physiotherapists can also provide advice on appropriate pain medication.
